Flirting at work place is not a crime in India. But if a woman gets disturbed by flirting, she can accuse him for sexual harassment. It depends how women feel about it. If you have listened to this dialogue from Inkaar you will be having so many questions in your mind. But Sudhir Mishra tries to vanish out your confusions in the definition of Sexual harassment through his latest flick Inkaar. The movie doesn’t join the sides of both Genders in an internal inquest on sexual harassment at the workplace, instead travels through the minds of accuse and victim and justifies their own views. Inkaar is not a woman centric film and nor a male dominated one. It presents its protagonists with gray shades. Bollywood has witnessed many realistic films flavored with commercial facts through Madhur Bhandarkar films. If those were set up in the Media, Corporate world and Fashion industry Inkaar is the latest version of such colorful realistic movie in the back drop of the Advertising world.
Inkaar picturizes the romance, physical relationship and the rivalry between Rahul Verma (Arjun Rampal), the CEO of a top notched Advertising company and Maya ( Chitrangada Singh) the National creative Director of the same company. Sudhir Mishra used a back and forth narrative style to tell the unusual story of Ad world. The real story unfolds when both protagonists ( Antagonist to each other) give their own explanation in an internal inquest presided over by social worker Mrs. Kamdar ( Deepthi Naval). Even though Sudhir Mishra used non linear treatment to narrate the story by making inter cuts between present and past, the story line graph remains linear. The conflicts created in Manoj Tyagi’s script don’t help the audience to be hooked on the story. The screenplay lack regular three act form of story telling.
Excess use of Closeup shots ( sometimes extreme closeups) and artificial lights in the Cinematography cause for a less cinematic visuals in the film . Unless very few outdoor scenes the entire film set-up in indoor locations which gives a TV serial kind visuals to Inkaar. The sharp and crisp cuts made by Editor Archit D Rasthogi gave a rhythm to the story narration even though overdose of inter cuts used in the film .Arjun delivered a matured and convincing acting style to give life to his character where as Chitrangada gives high voltage expressions and body language to portray her character.
A flick like Inkaar is definitely unexpected From the Director Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Is Raat Ki Subhah Nahin as the movie doesn’t come par with those masterpieces.
